The word “product registry” used to draw cringes across the supplement industry; but faced with an onslaught of negative media attention and the threat of politically motivated enforcement actions, sentiments changed quickly and the result is the Council for Responsible Nutrition’s Online Wellness Library (OWL). Designed for regulators and retailers, but eventually destined for public access, OWL provides a place where supplement brands can upload their label information and be part of a database that provides a much-needed statement of legitimacy.
